The Five Basic Pillars of Wellness

In today’s world, health/wellness is a buzz word. You often come across people talking about it, and phrases like how to get well, ways to stay healthy & fit, and how to bring wellness in life are trending these days. Even you too start your year with a desire of being well and having sound health. However, you fail to fulfil your aspirations of wellness. It happens, as you get confused with the real meaning of wellness and the components of wellness that matter a lot for your health.

For a healthy and happy life, you need to incorporate these five basic pillars of wellness. They are as follows:

  1. Nutrition

In the current fast world, following a healthy nutritional plan is harder. From Monday to Friday/Saturday, you are like a machine. You find it hard to take out time to cook food at home. Consequently, you eat fast/processed food, which is inferior in quality and unhealthy for you.

Stop consuming such foods and start taking a balanced diet. Get in touch with a dietician or nutritionist if you have no clear idea of what to eat, what not to eat and how much you should eat. In general, drink enough clean water, ensure the presence of all the nutrients (carbohydrate, protein, fat, vitamins, and minerals) in your meal, and stay away from sweetened/alcoholic drinks.

  1. Exercise

No one in this world can deny the benefits of workouts. Being physically active will increase your lifespan, improve your brain functioning, reduce joint pains, enhance your libido, etc. The list of workout benefits can go on. You need to be physically active as much as possible. For being well and healthy, you don’t need to take exercises of high intensity. Go for a brisk morning walk for 30 minutes, use stairs instead of lifts/escalators, and run for 5-10 minutes for at least 5 days a week.

  1. Sleep (Rest)

For better functionality, your body needs rest. Having a sound sleep helps your body repair its parts. How much time one should sleep can be a subject of a discussion? Usually, your body needs a rest of between 7-9 hours. Practically, never focus on sleeping hours. Have enough rest time that can make you feel fresh and relaxed.

  1. Attitude

Having a positive attitude is one of the fundamental five pillars of wellness that you should maintain. It will help you from being away from people/circumstances that bring you down. Always feel that you are healthy, fit, and well. Be sincere to commitments what you have made for your wellness.

  1. Lifestyle

In brief, it is a mix of all of the four pillars mentioned above. You need to get habituated of following a healthy lifestyle. It is a daily practice that can lead you to your way of having a healthy, fit, and happy life.
